The literary giant Goethe wrote the libretto to an opera that was never performed? But why? Werner Ehrhardt and l´arte del mondo were on the case. He quickly teamed up with Markus Schwering and the Goethe Society, like-minded allies who believed that the work ought to be presented in public as soon as possible. Admittedly, there was a minimalist performance in 1993, but it’s been left to l’arte del mondo to present Philipp Christoph Kayser’s outstanding music in its full orchestration. The plot follows the usual conventions of opera buffa. A quack doctor takes away a young pair of lovers’ inheritance from a departed aunt. Through a clever trick, they get the money back. All’s well that ends well!
