Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata in G Major, D 894
Franz Schubert / Franz Liszt: Lieder
Franz Liszt: Piano Sonata in B Minor
Piano: Francesco Piemontesi
The musicianship of Francesco Piemontesi is sophisticated, subtle, and technically brilliant. It could hardly be otherwise with the exquisite training he received. Born in Locarno, Piemontesi first studied with Arie Vardi, then with Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, Cécile Ousset, and Alexis Weissenberg. The Berliner Zeitung newspaper wrote that “he transports his listeners to a wonder world where everything seems new and unheard, without coming across as forced or calculating.” Piemontesi takes listeners on his own journey of musical discovery. The makeup of the program is not surprising, since Franz Schubert and Franz Liszt top the list of his favorite composers. Listeners may be especially interested that Liszt’s notoriously difficult B Minor Sonata is on the program once again; the piece is very popular at the moment. Loyal concertgoers will enjoy the opportunity to compare interpretations.
