As part of the stARTacademy, our annual “Art colleges visit Leverkusen” exhibition series gives visitors the opportunity to experience contemporary art from talented upcoming artists who are still studying and finding their way into the professional art world. Following our exhibition with students from the Weissensee Art Academy of Berlin in 2018, we will continue to focus on this art hotspot and for 2019 invite artists from the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) to show their work in the Erholungshaus. With over 70 courses of study and a 300-year history, the UdK Berlin is steeped in opportunity and tradition. Distinguished instructors and an interdisciplinary model provide students with the highest degree of interdisciplinary exchange. Among the many internationally renowned artists that teach at the university are Monica Bonvicini, Manfred Pernice, Hito Steyerl, Ai Weiwei and Thomas Zipp. In cooperation with the UdK and galerie burster in Berlin, which works closely with art colleges throughout Berlin, we will present a curated selection of master class students and graduates working in painting, photography, site-specific installations and digital media.
