UNEP children’s painting competition
Since 2004, the UNEP international children’s painting competition has been part of an extensive programme of environmental activities for young people organised jointly around the world by Bayer and UNEP. Last year’s was the 19th competition. With the United Nations declaring 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity, this topic was chosen as the theme of the competition. Some 600,000 girls and boys aged between six and 14 from 95 countries submitted paintings. In addition, a special Chinese painting competition was held in China with the support of a local partner, attracting 2.6 million entries. This took the total number of entries to a record 3.2 million. An exhibition of selected paintings from the competition goes on tour to various towns and is always very popular. The motto for 2011 is “Life in the Forests”. No doubt the entrants will once again come up with some very creative ideas!
Guided tours of the theatre
How many people can you fit into an orchestra pit? Where do the artists wait before and after their performance? The Bayer Kulturhaus, with its over 100-year history, is steeped in tradition, but it is also a modern theatre that attracts well over 40,000 people each year. We have therefore decided to start offering guided tours that include parts of the theatre not normally accessible to the public. Visitors will also be given an insight into the cultural and social history of Bayer AG and the work of Bayer Arts & Culture, which has been in charge of the company’s cultural activities for more than 100 years. Guided tours for schoolchildren as from year 8 and for groups can be booked through the ticket office.A maximum of 20 participants or one school class in each tour
Duration: 1½ to 2 hours

Bayer’s cultural ensembles
The artistic activities of Bayer employees are many and varied, ranging from drama and photography to choral and instrumental music. There are a total of 17 clubs and ensembles at Bayer’s sites in Leverkusen, Wuppertal, Dormagen and Krefeld where both Bayer employees and outsiders can develop their talents. Supporting the clubs and ensembles is an important aspect of Bayer AG’s social commitment. Of the seven cultural associations at the Leverkusen site, three – the Bayer Philharmoniker, the Männerchor (male voice choir) and the Bayer-Blasorchester (wind orchestra) – have histories spanning more than a century. Concerts by the Leverkusen ensembles are an established part of the town’s cultural life. Thanks to numerous concert tours, the Leverkusen orchestras and choirs are known far beyond Germany’s borders.Bayer AG
