The chamber orchestra's repertoire ranges from early baroque to modern classical, from baxh and Beethoven to Britten. Every year the members reharse three to four programmes which they then perform in Dormagen and the surrounding area. They also organize concerts with choirs and professional soloists. Stephan Kümmeler has been the musical director since 1999 and has also worked with various other ensembles, including Cologne's Gürzenich Orchestra, the Neue Rheinische Kammerorchester Köln, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Philharmonische Chor Köln. Stephan Kümmeler's main interest is in new music, be it as a conductor, pianist or organist.

History

The “Association for the Promotion of Instrumental Music”, as the Music Association was originally known, was founded in April 1966. Its 40th anniversary was celebrated in 2006 with a gala concert, the climax of which was a performance of Schumann's cello concerto, with the renowned concert cellist, Tess Remy-Schumacher, playing the solo part.
