Aficionados of original compositions: the Bayer Mandolin Orchestra
The Bayer Leverkusen Mandolin Orchestra with its 23 musicians is regularly invited to take part in national and international festivals. They have been on tour to various countries including Austria, Spain, Sweden and Australia. The orchestra’s repertoire covers all eras of orchestral literature from the Renaissance to the present day. The musicians play only original works and authentic arrangements for the mandolin. They work regularly with soloists and with brass, strings and singers.

History

The orchestra was founded in 1921 as the "Alpenrose Mandolin Club". Continuous collaboration with professional musicians has enabled it to go from strength to strength. Its musical director is Detlef Tewes, a world-famous mandolin virtuoso who has played under famous conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle and Simone Young.

The mandolin orchestra has repeatedly performed successfully at competitions, such as that of the North Rhine-Westphalian Music Council, where it has already won three awards.
