History
The art society's history began in 1980 in the attic of a private house, where a few artists from the town used to meet every week to pursue their passion-painting. In 1985 the Galerie-Werkstatt officially became a company-sponsored society. Its first fixed premises were in a 250 m² administrative building close to the factory. Since 1990 the Galerie-Werkstatt Bayer Dormagen has been based at Knechtsteden Monastery.
Activities
Over the years, the number of members has grown, as has the range of art on offer: silk painting, quilting, porcelain painting, sculpting, photography, ceramics, drawing and PC graphics have all been added to the repertoire. Qualified artists are in charge of the individual specialist areas. The society provides professional working material. There is a special painting and graphic art group for young people which is run by an art teacher. In other specialized areas too, dedicated members lend their support to young talent. Quality is paramount when it comes to fitting out the workrooms. The works of individual members, specific art categories and external artists are displayed on a regular basis in the Galerie-Werkstatt Bayer Dormagen's exhibition room. A new exhibition is presented every three weeks.
