The 101 members of the Bayer Leverkusen Ladies' Choir are proficient in a large number of musical genres from classical choral music to musical numbers. The choir’s standard is so high that it has taken part in various operatic productions.

With 101 active members the Bayer Leverkusen Ladies' Choir is one of the largest female choirs in Germany.Its repertoire covers all areas and eras, including Gregorian chants, Renaissance music and music from the classical and Romantic eras through to the present day. Its programme includes, in addition to standard choral music, operettas, musicals and oratorios. The choir has performed in several operatic productions, including Mozart’s Magic Flute, Verdi’s Don Carlos and Grieg’s Peer Gynt. Especially of late the choir has worked its way into the top repertoire of music for female choirs. Artistic highlights have include performances of Dvorák’s Requiem, Mahler’s Third Symphony, Brahms’s German Requiem and Bruckner’s Te Deum.

History

The Bayer Leverkusen Ladies' Choir was founded in 1975 by Prof. Hermannjosef Rübben. From 1994 to the end of 2007 the musical director was Ulrich Jung. At the beginning of 2008 he handed over the baton to his dynamic and dedicated successor Heinz Walter Florin.
