Bayer Arts & Culture’s main venue
The Bayer Erholungshaus is one of the oldest venues in Leverkusen. In its main auditorium, which seats up to 800 people, Bayer Arts & Culture today holds concerts, plays and art exhibitions.
Fresh start and refurbishment
The building was originally planned as a gym and initially also housed a public reading room. The theatre was refurbished after a fire in 1975 and reopened two years later. In 1992 the ticket office of Bayer Arts & Culture moved into the redesigned foyer. The auditorium, exhibition area and foyer underwent conversion work in 1997. The Erholungshaus adjoins a small park that Bayer laid out before World War I. In summer, visitors can enjoy refreshments in the beer garden.
