Employees active in the arts
Ensembles and clubs at Bayer
The artistic activities of Bayer employees are wide and varied, ranging from instrumental music, choral music and drama to photography. There are a total of 17 clubs and ensembles at Bayer's sites in Leverkusen, Wuppertal, Dormagen and Krefeld, some of which have been in existence for 100 years.
The story of Bayer's cultural societies began with the founding of the Bayer Leverkusen Wind Orchestra in 1901, when eleven employees at the Bayer works in Wiesdorf, Leverkusen, got together to play music. Four years later, 14 string players formed the Works Philharmonic Orchestra. These two institutions still exist today. The works orchestra became the Bayer Philharmonic Orchestra, which feature regularly in the Bayer cultural programme and also makes guest appearances at Bayer sites in other countries.
