History
The Bayer Wind Orchestra is Bayer AG’s oldest cultural ensemble. It was founded on October 20, 1901 as the Farbenfabriken Bayer Orchestral Society and swiftly established itself in the social and cultural life of the works and the city of Leverkusen. Since March 1996 the orchestra has been directed by Pierre Kuijpers. Kuijpers was principal conductor of the Dutch Royal Military Band in The Hague from 1986 to 1995 and now teaches conducting at the Conservatory in Maastricht amongst other things.
Due to the high standard of its performances and its internationally renowned musical director, the Bayer Wind Orchestra is known well beyond Germany's borders. The ensemble has performed numerous concerts all over Europe and even in the United States.
