Bayer Leverkusen Big Band

The Leverkusen Bayer Big Band is a regular at events such as the Leverkusen Jazztage jazz festival. It is part of the Bayer Wind Orchestra and plays swing, dance music and contemporary work composed for big bands. It also often accompanies well-known soloists.

The Bayer Big Band is part of the Bayer Wind Orchestra. The musicians play regularly at major events such as the Leverkusen Jazztage or the traditional annual concerts in the Bayer Erholungshaus. The repertoire ranges from swing to contemporary work written for big bands such as fusion, Latin jazz and modern jazz. The band also plays dance music but does not appear in full formation at events of this kind.

History
Willi Feyh, the header of the Bayer Wind Orchestra, founded the Big Band in 1970. From 1976 to 1991 the band leader was Fredy Arenz. It recorded a cross-section of its work on a first album in 1989. Since 1991 the band has been led by the saxophonist Jörg Kaufmann.

Something special

The Bayer Big Band regularly accompanies well-known soloists. They have included sax players Andrew White and Eddie Harris, trombonist Ulrich Juffa, guitarist Jim Hall, trumpeter Willie Thomas and singers Wilma Reasing and Uli Wewelsiep.
