A Century of Bayer.Kultur:

Bayer is sponsoring IN TRANSIT 08 in Berlin

Bayer is continuing its commitment to the arts in the capital of Germany.
Leverkusen, June 4, 2008 – From June 11-21, 2008, the House of World Cultures in Berlin, Germany, is presenting IN TRANSIT 08, a performing arts festival presenting highlights of theater, dance, film, installations, performance art and lectures. Bayer AG is the main sponsor of this festival, which will be opened by the video and performance artist Joan Jonas from New York with a specially adapted version of her work "The Shape, The Scent, The Feel of Things".

During the ten-day festival, artists and academics from five continents will be presenting work that takes up definitions of the arts, geography and society, establishing new connections and reflecting the flux and interplay of ideas, theory and practice. The festival programme, put together by the curator André Lepecki of the Tisch School of the Arts in New York, comprises installations by Manila-born media artist Lilibeth Cuenca, who now lives in Copenhagen, dance projects by the Iranian choreographer Hooman Sharifi, works by the Palestinian Raeda Sa’adeh centering on walls, electronic noise music by Shawn Greenlee and a performance in which the artist He Chengyao of Beijing will be auctioning her soul.

IN TRANSIT 08 illustrates the creative potential and close connections of the international art scene,” stresses Nikolas Kerkenrath, head of the Cultural Affairs Department at Bayer AG. “Our support for this festival is an expression of our global commitment and our conviction that dialog and the exchange of ideas and concepts are crucial as the world grows closer. Through IN TRANSIT 08, Bayer is able to play a role in the cultural life of Berlin, which is a key location for our company through Bayer Schering Pharma,” says Kerkenrath. Bayer has sponsored the House of World Cultures in Berlin since its reopening in August 2007.
